Updated: Jan 10, 2019

Austin-based AI Tech Leader Reflects on the Importance of a Strong Company Culture.

Peering over the skyline of Austin, Texas, it’s easy to notice the influx of buildings emblazoned with the logos of technology companies, both big and small, that have established a presence in the Lone Star State’s capital.

With a surge in venture capital investment, industry titans like Apple announcing new headquarters in Austin, and a thriving culture ripe with innovation and diversity, it’s no surprise that the burgeoning city earned the number two spot on Business. org's Top 10 U.S. Cities for Entrepreneurs and Startups in 2018.

For the 5,500 startups that call Austin home, having the opportunity to positively influence company cultures and help shape the evolving tech environment is just as important as business growth. Companies of all sizes are recognizing that it’s the employees who are the architects in building a positive office culture, and paramount in attracting and retaining the country’s elite talent.

Built In Austin, a top recruiting and startup hub, announced today its list of the Best Places to Work in 2019, with OJO Labs, one of Austin’s resident tech companies and a leader in AI conversational technology, named among the group to win the inspiring award.

“There is high-quality talent in Austin like never before,” said Krishna Srinivasan, a partner at Austin-based investment firm LiveOak Venture Partners, which invested in four startups last year including OJO Labs. “It’s not just the quantity that has gone up, but the quality. We expect 2019 to be as strong as 2018.”

One of Built In’s roles in the local tech community is to connect awesome people with the world’s most innovative companies. Built In’s “Best Places to Work” rates companies based on certain criteria that includes compensation and employer benefits identified through its platform. For compensation, the site looks at the median percentile for all salaries entered for a company and compares that to the rest of the companies in the database. For benefits, Built In focuses on the perks and incentives that are most important to its core audience, which is comprised largely of job seekers who are hoping to land their dream job within the tech industry.

In addition to being at the forefront of developing groundbreaking technology that improves consumer decision-making processes with its conversational AI, OJO Labs is creating an influential company culture reflective of its core values. Looking at the budding startup’s career site, it is evident that the company is invested and dedicated to providing the necessary tools and the best opportunities for its team, so it can continue solving the world’s toughest problems.

“We wake up every day focused on our employees and the values that guide us so we can be effective in solving hard problems for everyone our products serve,” said John Berkowitz, co-founder and CEO of OJO Labs. “We are at the beginning of creating a truly exceptional company and will continue to obsess over making the culture even better for the years to come.”

Team members at OJO Labs are not only excited about the work they’re doing, but also who they get to collaborate, challenge and progress with on daily basis - laying the foundation for the incredible company culture that has been established. Having also recently been recognized by Comparably with a 2018 Best Company Culture’ award, OJO Labs is quickly becoming a beacon for companies, in and out of Austin, to emulate when installing or refreshing company culture.
